Off Hour PCs PC Services & Consulting
~ On YOUR Schedule ~ Manlius, NY
What is Off Hour PCs ?
Off-Hour PCs is a small (OK, really small.....OK, it's just me!) PC consulting service.
We're, I mean, I'm different from other consultants for two reasons:
-
I specialize in providing all types of PC services during the hours traditionally reserved for
non-business activities. You know, like between 7 and 11 PM on weeknights, and anytime on the
weekends. That's right, I'm talking about the parts of the day/week when YOU have free
time and need help, the times when no one else is around to help. Hey, I've got a regular day
job too, but if I want to earn a little extra income, the only way to do it is to make myself
available when it's convenient for YOU.
-
I believe in training and consulting with PC users in a relaxed way. Too often, people shy away
from computers or never ask for help because they've been made to feel stupid by my colleagues
in the industry. I take a light, humorous approach to put you at ease, and convince you that you
can do anything you want with your computer. I ask a lot of questions, to be sure we address the
things most important to you, and to help you find the answers for yourself. And I expect you to
ask a lot of questions, remembering most importantly that there is no such thing as a dumb question.
It's been my experience that users learn more, retain more, and enjoy themselves more when they're
taught this way, one on one. For what it's worth, I've also helped many retired people get started
with computers, even though they may never have used one before.
I offer services in the following areas:
-
PC Pre-Purchase Consultation - I will discuss your PC needs with you and recommend
the proper hardware and software. No, I'm not a dealer, and I don't have some guy giving me free
stuff if I send people his way. I'm more concerned with making sure you get what you need, without
paying for a lot of stuff you don't need. Hey, if you like, I'll even go to the store with you.
-
PC Setup & Upgrades - I can set up your PC initially and perform any upgrades
you may need.
-
PC Software Installation, Training, & Support - including Windows installation and setup,
installation and training on many common Windows programs, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and
Access. I can help you with just about any software problems or questions you may have.
-
Internet Setup & Training - I can get you started with the correct hardware, software,
and knowledge to connect and use the Internet effectively. If you like, I can even set you up
with FREE Internet services.
-
Web Site Creation & Maintenance - I can create a personalized home page, or custom
web pages with your content. I will provide training on how to maintain your web site or, I can
maintain your site myself for a reasonable monthly fee.
-
Custom Programming - Working with you, I can create customized software applications
for your business or personal use. I can develop programs in several different languages.
What Off-Hour PCs does not do:
There are certain jobs that we, I mean, I cannot accept:
-
Macintosh or Apple Computer work - I can spell 'MAC', and even 'APPLE'. But that's
about it as far as my knowledge of these machines.
-
Large Scale Programming Jobs - If you need some custom programming that will require a
programming team, you're probably working regular business hours, and like I said before, I've already
got a day job, and my wife won't let me quit it!
-
Large Scale Programming Jobs Needed In a Hurry - A wise programmer once said, "I can do it
quickly, or I can do it right. Which do you prefer?" Enough said.
-
Work Outside of the Immediate Syracuse, NY area - If you're more than a half hour's drive from
my center of the universe, it's probably not worth the trip for me, unless you can have me work remotely. I
apologize for my brutal honesty, but it's the only way I know, and I believe it saves time and aggravation for
everyone. Of course, I can be flexible on this for the right price.........:-)
-
Home Repair and Improvement - I'm a pretty handy guy around the house, but my wife already has
me doing enough home improvement projects. Frankly, I'm not all that anxious to take on any more.......
Why should I pay this yo-yo to help me with my computer ?
My name is David Best. Yes, it's my real name, (and please spare me the jokes -- I've heard 'em all) and no,
that's not why you should hire me, but I do have more than 14 years of computer experience on a variety of
equipment and operating systems. I've been a programmer/analyst and software developer, with several local
companies, working on financial applications, sales automation, general database maintenance and processing,
and web site creation and maintenance.
How much am I going to have to pay for this yo-yo to help me with my PC and/or programming needs?
